Totsu Residence Shiodome

A one-room apartment in Shimbashi 6-chome: plan longer stays around its kitchen and laundry, and sort out luggage and self check-in in advance.

How Would I Choose?

If you want to stay a few nights around Shimbashi and Shiodome, cook simply and do your own laundry, I would put Totsu Residence Shiodome on the shortlist. What matters here are units 703 and 903 managed by Sumyca — not every room in the building sold as one hotel. When booking, checking the unit number matters more than just remembering the building name.

Both units are currently listed officially as 19.3㎡, for up to two guests, with one small double bed; the main differences are the 7th and 9th floors, plus the actual layout and the plans available on the day. It suits people who can accept sharing a bed and checking in with a passcode notice. If you need front-desk luggage storage, daily housekeeping, or are sensitive to traffic noise, confirm first before deciding.

Transport and Check-In: Check the Unit Number First, Then Enter as Notified

The address is 6-23-7 Shimbashi, Minato-ku. the Sumyca official Unit 703 page lists Onarimon Station and Daimon Station on the Toei Oedo Line, each about a 5-minute walk, and Shiodome Station about 8 minutes. These are general walking guides with no specified exit; for large luggage or a stroller, check the lift exit and ground-level route separately.

You can first check Toei Daimon Station facilities or the station layout map for the station you are using. The building is listed as having a lift, but that does not mean the whole route from your chosen station exit to the room is step-free; if you use a wheelchair, confirm the entrance, lift size and in-room bathroom with the property together.

The official short-stay page lists 16:00 check-in and 10:00 check-out. The platform separately lists 16:00–22:00 self check-in, with passcode information provided after booking; if you expect to arrive after 22:00, contact them at least one day in advance. Before departure, save the unit number, entry method and contact channel, and keep your phone online — arrival will be much easier.

Units 703 and 903: Both 19.3㎡ — Compare Floor and Actual Photos Separately

Currently, the official Unit 703 short-stay page and the Unit 903 short-stay page both list 1R, 19.3㎡, up to 2 guests, and one small double bed. No bed width in centimetres is given, so “small double” cannot simply be read as a standard double bed.

UnitOfficial area / bedRoom difference
7037th floor / 19.3㎡ / one small double bed; up to 2 guestsCheck by Unit 703 number, the day’s plan and the corresponding photos
9039th floor / 19.3㎡ / one small double bed; up to 2 guestsDifferent floor — still check the Unit 903 layout and bookable conditions

Staying alone, you can use the bedside table and chairs for meals and planning; staying as two, you have to consider sharing the bed and the amount of luggage at the same time. The 19.3㎡ also includes the kitchen, bathroom and entrance — it is not all floor space for opening suitcases — so I would agree in advance to take turns tidying luggage and keep the walkway clear.

The floor plan is an illustration of the official Unit 703 and cannot be taken as a guarantee that every corner of 903 is exactly the same. If you care about the balcony, daylight, bedside passage or the position of specific facilities, go by the photos and notices for the unit number you booked.

Breakfast and Kitchen: Prepare Your Own — Do Not Treat the Apartment as a Hotel with Meals

The platform lists no breakfast. If you want to eat in the room, buy simple ingredients the day before, or go to a nearby convenience store or café in the morning; for just one night, you do not have to buy a whole bag of seasonings specially for the kitchen.

The official listing includes a hob, refrigerator, microwave, rice cooker, kettle, cooking utensils and tableware. Actual items may change with preparation, and seasonings and consumables should also be checked against the check-in instructions. The photos above show kitchen equipment, not breakfast supplied by the property; after cooking, tidy up so the small space shared by two people stays comfortable.

For stays of two or three nights or more, you can have breakfast in the apartment one day and eat out on the other days; if you have to leave very early every day, preparing the night before is smoother than hunting for a restaurant in the morning.

Laundry, Bathroom and Quiet Hours: Get Used to Apartment Living First

The official listing includes a washing machine, drying supplies, bathroom drying and a separate bath and toilet. This is very practical for longer stays, but a washing machine does not necessarily mean a full load can be washed and dried quickly; check the machine’s functions, drying method and detergent, and allow drying time. Arrangements for towels, rubbish and cleaning top-ups should also be asked about under your own short-stay booking.

The official notice specially reminds guests that the room has an Android smart screen with no TV tuner, so general terrestrial TV channels cannot be watched. Streaming services require your own account; if you want to watch dramas at night or work, check the screen and internet method first, and do not treat the picture in the photos as an included subscription.

Some guests praise the location, while others feel the room is more compact than expected, that street traffic affects sleep, and mention that early check-in or luggage storage is not possible. Light sleepers and people arriving on early flights should first ask what help can be provided, and arrange suitable luggage storage separately if needed; do not assume a residential unit has a hotel front desk.

The platform lists quiet hours of 21:00–08:00 and no extra bed or baby bed. The official monthly-rental page and the short-stay platform are different booking processes, so prices, cleaning and minimum stays for long and short stays should each be checked separately — do not apply monthly-rental conditions directly to a one-night booking.

Nearby: Plan Shimbashi Dining and Minato Walks Separately

Restaurants, convenience stores and everyday shopping around Shimbashi and Daimon fit apartment living. The window photo shows city roads, a reminder that this is not a resort environment away from the street; how different floors, orientations and noise feel should be judged by the actual arrangement.

For just one night, I would first sort out the gap before the 16:00 entry, dinner and the next day’s departure; for two or three nights, I would keep one day for kitchen and laundry and arrange a walk toward Shiba Park, Tokyo Tower or Shiodome on another day. Do not force every sight into a single day for the sake of a “walking circle” — that is how a longer stay stays relaxed.

Pros and Trade-Offs: Self-Sufficient and Convenient, but Think Through Front-Desk Needs First

  • Worth looking forward to: Units 703 and 903 have clear unit numbers, areas and floors, suitable for booking by unit.
  • Worth looking forward to: kitchen, laundry, bathroom drying and a separate bath and toilet give longer stays living flexibility.
  • Worth looking forward to: Onarimon, Daimon and Shiodome directions let you choose a station by the day’s itinerary.
  • Think first: two people sharing one small double bed, with 19.3㎡ still needing luggage space allocated.
  • Think first: with passcode self check-in, early entry, luggage storage and cleaning cannot be assumed to be handled at a front desk.
  • Think first: street noise, quiet hours and the lack of terrestrial TV reception need to suit your own habits.

How to Choose in the End?

I would recommend Totsu Residence Shiodome to solo travellers or pairs willing to arrange breakfast, laundry and the check-in process themselves. Check 703 or 903 first, accept the small double bed and the living proportions of 19.3㎡, and think through luggage, noise and late-arrival contact — then this can become a practical small apartment for longer stays in Minato-ku.
