Keikyu EX Hotel Takanawa: Shinagawa Station, 15–30 m² Rooms and Royal Host Breakfast

If your next stop is the Tokaido Shinkansen or you are flying through Haneda, Keikyu EX Hotel Takanawa is a sensible Shinagawa-area base. I would prioritize the room type and luggage space over a promised Tokyo Tower view.

The main strengths and compromises

The hotel is listed as roughly a three-minute walk from Shinagawa Station’s Takanawa exit. This is useful for the shinkansen and Keikyu trains toward Haneda. Twin rooms of 23 m² and 30 m² offer more living space, sofas and separated bathroom facilities.

The 15 m² Semi-Double is compact, especially for two large cases. Some guests note corridor noise or limited daylight. A few room photographs show Tokyo Tower, but not every room has that view. Choose a named view category if it matters.

From Shinagawa Station with luggage

The address is 4-10-8 Takanawa, Minato, Tokyo. Check that you are going to the Takanawa branch. From the JR central gates, the regular route heads toward the Takanawa exit and then down escalators or stairs, before turning toward the hotel.

For a large suitcase or stroller, look up Shinagawa Station’s platform and central-gate elevators. The shortest walking route may not be the lift route. Ask the hotel about the approach from the exit to the front door if someone in your party must avoid stairs or steep slopes.

Staying here can remove an extra cross-town transfer before the Tokaido Shinkansen to Atami, Nagoya or Kansai. For Haneda, check the Keikyu train type and stops on your actual travel day.

Shinagawa food and city travel

There are restaurants, shops and convenience stores around the station, so dinner can be handled before returning to the hotel. If sightseeing focuses on Ginza, Shibuya or Shinjuku, calculate the specific route each day: Shinagawa’s size does not mean every subway pass or attraction is equally convenient.

Choosing the room

EX Semi-Double is 15 m² with a 140 cm bed, suited mainly to a short solo stay or two guests who accept a compact shared bed and limited luggage area. Check the smoking category when booking.

EX Superior Twin is 23 m² with two 120 cm beds, a sofa, tea table and separated bath and toilet. I would start here for two adults with luggage or for several nights. EX Deluxe Twin is 30 m² with two 120 cm beds and more floor space; for three people, ask about the smaller additional sofa bed.

The room photos show the physical differences: the 15 m² room has a bed, desk and compact bath, while twin categories add seating and distinct washing areas. Guest images of an opened suitcase in a Semi-Double show how narrow the free passage can feel once occupied.

Facilities and arrival experience

The hotel lists an air purifier with humidifier, fridge, kettle and hairdryer, with tea, coffee and some toiletries at an amenities area. Guests have different experiences with self-check-in, reception and lobby cleanliness. If the machine does not work, ask staff rather than struggling with it.

If traveling with older relatives or requesting a room near the elevator, raise the preference before arrival.

Royal Host breakfast

Breakfast is a Japanese or Western set meal at Royal Host on the first floor, not a buffet. The source lists 06:30–10:00 and a reference adult price of ¥1,550 including tax. Takeaway is not offered. These details were checked on October 24, 2026.

The Japanese set includes rice, grilled fish and soup; the Western set features toast, eggs and meat. If a leisurely seated breakfast suits the day, compare breakfast-inclusive and room-only rates. For an early airport departure, the station may be an easier breakfast stop.

One night or several nights

For one night before a train or flight, the short transfer is the biggest benefit. Over several nights, twin-room sofas, separated toilet and shower, light and the place to open cases matter more.

Check-out varies by room: the source states 10:00 for Semi-Double and 12:00 for Twin. Check-in is 15:00. These differences can change how relaxed your final morning will be.

I would choose the 15 m² Semi-Double for a light solo stopover, or compare 23 m² Superior Twin for two travelers on a longer stay.
