Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa
Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa
If you want balcony, garden and Shinagawa transport together, I would first accept the uphill walk, then carefully choose the twin, third-bed or four-person layout.

How Would I Choose?
If you want to stay somewhere convenient for Shinagawa, where coming back to your room also brings a bit more greenery, I would compare Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa. Most rooms have balconies, and the in-hotel dining and garden walks can leave a little slow-down time inside a city itinerary.
I would first think through two things: whether I can accept carrying suitcases uphill, and how many beds my companions actually need. This is a different hotel from Takanawa Prince Hotel; driveways, lobbies and rooms cannot be mixed up. Choosing the full hotel name, room type and arrival route in advance makes the trip much easier to arrange.

First, the Advantages and the Things to Accept
What Attracts Me
- The common twin room is 29.9 sqm, with a balcony and window-side space, suited to people who want to rest in the room.
- Twin, King, triple and quad rooms can be picked by actual bedding, so there is no need to squeeze into sharing one bed.
- Garden and in-hotel dining options suit a walk or a leisurely meal between itinerary items.
- Shinagawa transport is usable, and the Takanawa area loop shuttle can also be taken depending on the time.
Think About This Before Booking
- From Shinagawa Station’s Takanawa Exit to the hotel means walking up Zakuro-zaka slope, so allow extra energy and time when pulling large suitcases.
- The third and fourth beds differ in size by bed type, so do not imagine the same beds just from the room name’s occupancy.
- Club Lounge and pool usage conditions depend on room type, season and plan.
- Garden views, Tokyo Tower direction and floor must be matched to the right plan; not every room is the same.
Location and Transport: Look at the Exit First When Carrying Luggage
The official access page lists about a 5-minute walk from Shinagawa Station’s Takanawa Exit: about 400 metres up Zakuro-zaka slope after crossing Dai-Ichi Keihin. I would count this uphill stretch together with the time to walk through the station to the exit, and not rush to finish it in the shortest number of minutes when carrying large suitcases.
The free loop shuttle departs from Shinagawa Prince Hotel, about a 2-minute walk from Shinagawa Station; it is not boarded directly in front of Shinagawa Station. Before departing, check the official timetable and boarding point, and confirm you are on the loop route heading to Shin Takanawa; if arriving later or wanting to carry luggage for one less stretch, also compare taxis.
Takanawadai Station’s A1 exit is in another direction, officially listed as about a 3-minute walk. People needing step-free movement should first check the Bureau of Transportation’s Takanawadai facilities information and contact station staff to arrange assistance from the platform to the ticket gates, then ask the hotel to confirm the ground-level entrance; do not assume, just because there is a lift at ground level, that no assistance is needed all the way from the platform to the room.

How to Arrange the Surroundings?
I would leave a blank stretch of time for the Takanawa garden, especially for people who do not want every day packed with sights; a walk near the hotel alone can change the pace. The garden connects different Prince hotels, but on arrival, use your own hotel’s official entrance and front desk as the reference.
If you want to see a film or an aquarium, the Shinagawa Prince side has T・Joy PRINCE Shinagawa and Maxell Aqua Park. These are nearby facilities with separate tickets, and whether tickets are included depends on the plan; people with children can pick a day according to the weather, and should not treat them as free in-hotel activities necessarily included with the stay.

Room Types and Space: Find the Bedding That Fits You First
The official room list separates the Natural, Modern and Club floors. Natural Twin and Modern Twin are commonly 29.9 sqm, with two beds from 110 cm wide and 203 cm long; Modern King is 29.9 sqm with one 200 x 203 cm bed. When choosing, check floor, full room name and bedding together.
A triple room’s third bed differs from the first two beds. Natural Triple is commonly from 29.9 sqm, with a third bed from 103 x 181 cm in addition to two beds from 110 x 203 cm; the four-person Natural Force is 38.6 sqm, and its four beds also differ in width and length. I would confirm against each traveller’s height and sleep needs.
The balcony is what attracts me, but when travelling with children I would also first confirm door locks and usage rules. People who value quiet, views, or opening large suitcases fully should consider window direction, the passage at the foot of the bed, and the seating area together when choosing a room; a suite living room in a photo does not represent a standard twin room layout.
| Room-type direction | Official area and bedding | I would first confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Natural / Modern Twin | 29.9 sqm; two beds from 110 x 203 cm | Floor, passage beside the bed, and balcony. |
| Modern King | 29.9 sqm; one 200 x 203 cm bed | Sleeping habits for one bed, and direction. |
| Natural / Modern Triple | From 29.9 sqm; two beds + third bed from 103 x 181 cm | Third-bed length, luggage, and actual layout. |
| Natural Force Quad Room | 38.6 sqm; two 113 x 203 cm beds, plus one 113 x 184 cm and one 80 x 200 cm bed | Bed allocation for four people and taking turns using the bathroom. |
| Club Twin / King | From 29.9 sqm; Twin two 122 x 203 cm beds / King one 200 x 203 cm bed | Club benefits and breakfast venue. |

In-Hotel Services and Arrival Arrangements
Before arrival I would confirm the booking’s check-in and check-out times, the front desk location, and luggage storage arrangements. If this is a stop before or after travelling in and out of Tokyo, save the shuttle times back to Shinagawa first, so check-out day is less likely to turn into a last-minute rush up and down the slope.
Public spaces, dining and the garden suit slow use; the seasonal pool, fitness facilities and Club services should be confirmed against stay conditions and opening dates. If you choose this hotel for one particular facility, first look clearly at fees, times and rules for accompanying children.
Guests appreciate the garden, balconies and room space, and also care about the uphill walk, the age of facilities, or how different room types feel. I would weigh my own in-room needs together with the physical effort of transport; if there is a problem with room condition, facilities or cleanliness, raise it with the front desk early.

How Is Breakfast Arranged?
For breakfast, first choose whether you want a Japanese set meal or a Japanese-Western buffet. The official breakfast page lists Washoku Shimizu 7:00–10:00 and Slope Side Diner ZAKURO 6:30–10:00, neither of which accepts breakfast reservations; I would first check which venue your stay plan includes.
The general adult price is 4,500 yen including tax at each venue, plus a 13% service charge; ZAKURO children aged 4–12 are 2,500 yen including tax plus a service charge. Membership prices are listed separately and cannot be treated as applying to every guest; actual fees follow the current arrangement.
Shimizu’s Japanese set meal and ZAKURO’s buffet are two different mornings. If you want to eat slowly, allow time for waiting and serving yourself; if you are rushing for a train, first confirm the start of service and the transport connection. Photos are current-period or guest-meal references, and ingredients, menus and supply are subject to change.

One Night or Several Nights: I Care About Different Things
For one night, I would put Shinagawa access, shuttle or taxi arrangements first, choose a bed type that lets my companions sleep well, and then decide whether to add breakfast.
For consecutive nights, the balcony, seating and the common space from 29.9 sqm can deliver more value. Two people with large suitcases should first assign a fixed luggage area; three or four people should look at each bed’s length together with the passage to the bathroom at night.
People who want to be out late every day need to first confirm late-evening transport back to the hotel; people who want to slow the trip down can leave one morning or evening for the garden and in-hotel dining. Once your own pace is chosen clearly, this hotel’s space will really be usable.
Finally, Who Would I Recommend It To?
I would recommend it to people who use Shinagawa transport, want a balcony and twin beds in the room, and are willing to accept the uphill walk or arrange the shuttle. For three or four people travelling together, it is worth comparing here by actual bedding and area.
If what matters most is a flat route to the station and walking less every day, confirm the arrival route properly before booking. Once the three things — the uphill walk, bed type and breakfast — are thought through, it will be easier to feel at ease after checking in.
