What would I choose?

If you want to enjoy activities in Roppongi and get a good night’s sleep, I would consider the APA Hotel Roppongi SIX. Both its single and double rooms are 11 square meters, making the choice clear: if you can accept a compact space, prioritize transportation and sleeping arrangements; if both of you have large suitcases, don’t rush to choose the smallest room.

This area consists of multiple buildings, each with its own breakfast restaurant. Before arriving, check which building you want to go to and which restaurant includes breakfast; this will save you time finding your way around on-site, rather than just remembering the hotel name.

First look at the advantages and the aspects that need to be accepted.

What attracts me

  • Roppongi-ichome Station is a major transportation hub, making it a good place to include Roppongi in your itinerary.
  • Both the 11㎡ single and double rooms have 140cm beds and under-bed storage, making them easy to configure for short stays with light furnishings.
  • If you want to increase your living space, you can compare it with the 22㎡ Deluxe Twin.
  • The two breakfast restaurants offer different options and can be arranged according to your dining habits.

Think before booking

  • An 11㎡ room would be quite cramped for two people and two large suitcases, and the bathroom would also prioritize practicality.
  • The general route to Exit 3 of Roppongi 1-chome involves a pedestrian overpass and cannot be directly regarded as a stepless route.
  • For buildings with multiple buildings, make sure to locate the reception and restaurant areas first, and allow time for elevator waiting before leaving.

Location and Transportation: Check the exit first if you have luggage.

The official website lists it as about a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Roppongi-ichome Station and reminds travelers that they need to cross a pedestrian bridge. When traveling light, I can check this route first, but when I have a lot of luggage, I will check both the stairwell and ground-level routes together, not just the shortest time.

The Tokyo Metro Roppongi-ichome Station facilities information list includes an elevator from the central platform to the central escalator, with a separate elevator entrance at the central escalator; the west escalator has elevator passages leading to Exit 1, Roppongi Tikup, and Exit 2. These are different routes and are arranged separately from the pedestrian bridge route at Exit 3.

For those who need to use a stroller or carry their luggage without lifting it, I would first ask the hotel how to get to the reception desk after exiting the elevator. Guests have also mentioned that some entrances have steps; the presence of an elevator at the station doesn’t mean there are no elevation differences along the way.

What are the arrangements for the surrounding area?

This location is more suitable for itineraries centered around Roppongi. Go out and do some activities first, then return to the Roppongi 1-chome area in the evening for dinner and supplies, before going back to your room to rest. This will make better use of the location than traveling to many different areas across the city every day.

Some guests take a morning stroll to a nearby shrine, while others choose to stay in this area for events or performances. If you’re going to a concert, I’ll check the actual venue and transportation after the show beforehand; don’t assume that just because it’s in Tokyo, the return trip will be convenient.

Room type and space: First find a bed that suits you.

Both single and double rooms are 11 square meters with beds 140 centimeters wide. If you’re traveling alone, you can focus on tidying up the bed, desk, and how to organize your luggage. For two people traveling together, the room doesn’t become larger just because the name changes from single to double. The 11-square-meter room has under-bed storage, but you should consider the actual thickness of your suitcase when using it.

The Deluxe Twin is 22 square meters with a bed width of 120 centimeters. The official website lists no under-bed storage. People who want more space can compare this type first; even with the increased space, the way to store luggage is still different from the basic room.

Specifications are compiled based on the hotel’s official room information. Below are separate images of the room types and photos taken by guests. Please refer to the bed type and bathroom configuration in the photos to match the name of your reservation.

In-house services and arrival arrangements

The official check-in time is 3:00 PM and the check-out time is 10:00 AM. If I have other plans after staying one night, I will pack my luggage the night before so that I don’t have to search for things and wait for the elevator before check-out the next day.

The building is divided into multiple sections, so please inquire about the location of your room, reception, and breakfast upon arrival. Some guests mentioned checking in at the central area, while others used the self-service check-out machines; simply follow the instructions provided on-site.

If you want your room cleaned during a consecutive stay, you need to put up a cleaning request sign on the door before 9:00 AM; the official website also states that cleaning, including changing the sheets, is arranged every 3 nights. For people who leave early every day, I include putting up the sign and bringing my room key as part of my pre-departure checks.

How should breakfast be arranged?

The breakfasts at the two restaurants cannot be priced the same. Fuji in Building A offers a Japanese-Western style buffet with sousai bread, open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, ending at 9:30 AM; 1,500 yen for adults pre-order, 1,600 yen on the day. TRATTORIA ITSUKI in Building D also offers a Japanese-Western style buffet, with the same hours; 1,700 yen for adults pre-order, 1,900 yen on the day.

If I want to enjoy a leisurely meal at the hotel, I’ll first check which restaurant is included in the breakfast package, and then compare the total price difference. Some guests have given feedback that they like the breakfast, but they didn’t clearly specify which restaurant they used; when choosing, I still prioritize my own taste, dining time, and restaurant location.

For those who need to leave early in the morning, consider whether you’ll have enough time for a leisurely meal. Breakfast information is compiled from the hotel’s official page; on-site offerings and arrangements may be subject to change.

I notice different things when I stay one night versus staying two nights in a row.

For a single person traveling light, 11 square meters is a very clear trade-off: time is allocated to the outside activities, and the main focus upon returning to the room is showering and sleeping. It’s different for two people staying together; who unpacks first and how the other person gets there becomes a daily struggle.

Some guests praised the beds and soundproofing, while others felt the rooms and bathrooms were too small. When choosing this place, I first accept the appearance of the space and then see if it suits my lifestyle, rather than expecting to find a room that is bigger than the photos when I arrive.

If you’re staying for an extended period, remember to arrange for a cleaning label, and allow extra time for the elevator before you leave. If you’re tall, work in the room, or handle a lot of shopping bags every day, a 22㎡ or more spacious accommodation might be worth comparing.

Finally, to whom would I recommend it?

I would recommend this to people with a long itinerary in Roppongi, those staying for a short time alone, or those with minimal luggage. Save the correct exits and building information beforehand, and choose the right breakfast restaurant; this will give you a better sense of direction when you arrive.

For couples with large suitcases, needing a completely accessible room without stairs, or wanting to be able to stretch out comfortably upon returning to their room, prioritize space and access route over price. This room is best suited for travelers who know what they want and are willing to compromise on 11 square meters.
