Café, bar, dormitory and private rooms: check bathroom arrangements

CITAN Hostel suits travellers who want their accommodation to be part of meeting people along the way. There is coffee downstairs, a basement bar with food and music events, and dormitories and private rooms upstairs. If you enjoy that lively mix, it is likely to be more memorable than a conventional business hotel.

At a glanceHow I’d choose

Choosing a bed with enough luggage space

The hostel offers mixed and women-only dorms, as well as private rooms with Twin, Queen or King beds. A private room gives you a private sleeping space, but check the specific listing to see whether its bathroom is private too; a large bed does not make it a full hotel suite. In a dorm, start by checking upper bunks, luggage storage and bed curtains.

Getting here with luggage

Trip lists Bakuro-yokoyama Station at roughly 160 metres, a three-minute walk. If arriving via JR Bakurocho or the Asakusa Line at Higashi-nihombashi, check the relevant exit separately and take a lift to street level with large luggage. The listed check-in window begins at 16:00 and runs until 23:00, so pay attention to your arrival time.

Should you add breakfast? Start with your departure time

The café and food scene are central to CITAN’s appeal; the photo gallery shows soup, bread, plated dishes and coffee. Check separately whether breakfast is included in your rate, when food can be ordered and what is on the day’s menu. It is a good place for a leisurely coffee before going out; for an early departure, prepare something simple the night before.

One night or a longer stay?

A one- or two-night stay lets you experience the café and bar atmosphere. If you like planning your day in shared spaces, a longer stay can have its own rhythm. Solo travellers hoping to meet people may prefer a dorm; for social days and quiet nights, compare private rooms instead.

Trade-offs I would accept before booking

The basement DJ lounge is a plus for music and socialising. Light sleepers should ask about room levels and events. Follow the shared kitchen’s cleaning rules, and remember that lively common areas do not mean conversations should disturb sleeping roommates.

Plan nearby outings with less backtracking

During a stay in Nihombashi, spend a day exploring Ningyocho or small museums in Nihombashi and make the neighbourhood part of your itinerary.

If the bed arrangement and shared-space lifestyle suit your trip, compare the total cost for the same dates, number of guests and cancellation conditions. Check breakfast and room upgrades separately to see which extras are worth paying for.
