Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Honten: Spacious Rooms, Ceramic Bath and Breakfast

Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Honten

If you’re traveling in Tokyo as a couple and want a place where you can truly relax in your room, I would seriously compare the Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Honten. What attracts me most isn’t its large public spaces, but rather the fact that its standard rooms are over 50 square meters, have ceramic bathtubs, and are only about a 1-minute walk from the new Ochanomizu B3a elevator exit. However, the breakfast is a pre-ordered sandwich meal, not the kind of buffet you’d expect from a large hotel.

First, identify the "Ochanomizu Main Store" and don’t mistake it for Ryūmeikan next to Tokyo Station.

This building is Hotel Ryumeikan Ochanomizu Honten, located at 3-4 Kanda Surugadai. There is also a Hotel Ryumeikan Tokyo near Tokyo Station; however, its breakfast and facilities differ, and information cannot be shared.

  • My reasons for choosing it: The double room has a clearly defined spacious area; the room has a Shigaraki ware bathtub; it’s close to the subway elevator exit, which is convenient for luggage; the original review repeatedly praised the room and its quiet atmosphere.
  • Limitations to consider: It doesn’t rely on large public facilities like swimming pools and public baths; breakfast is simple and must be booked in advance; there are recent examples of room service issues, and larger rooms do not necessarily mean zero cleaning risks.

Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM, according to the hotel’s official website, dated October 23, 2026. Source 1

Luggage can be transported via B3a; check the B3a line separately from the JR St. Bridge Exit.

The general JR route is about a 3-minute walk from the Hijiribashi Exit of Ochanomizu Station; the elevator route has a more specific official description: there is an elevator at Exit B3a of the new Ochanomizu Station, which takes about 1 minute to reach the building. The official website also directs the connecting route between Awajicho and Ogawamachi stations to B3a; when walking from different platforms to this exit, you still need to allow time for the underground passage.

This information is compiled from the official transportation page. When traveling with large luggage, I would prioritize the B3a line instead of assuming a 3-minute commute from the JR exit as a universal value for all routes. The main gate is located towards Kannonzaka, and the official website also notes that the vehicle entrance is a one-way road, so providing the full address when calling a taxi is safer. Source 1

The itinerary can include a stroll through Ochanomizu, visits to the Kanda district, and travel within Tokyo. If you prioritize relaxing in your room with a bath, the larger rooms here will be more worthwhile. If you’re not staying at the hotel all day, you’ll have to weigh the benefits of the significant upgrade yourself.

Room type: Standard rooms are already spacious, while corner rooms offer more natural light and better location.

Room typeVerified differencesSelection Method
Room type: Standard roomThe discrepancies have been verified. The Japanese website lists the room size as 52.0–56.5 square meters, accommodating 2 people, with a 120×205cm bed, either twin or Hollywood twin beds.If both individuals prefer to unpack and rest in the room for an extended period, they can prioritize this option.
Corner RoomThe confirmed discrepancies are as follows: Official website shows 59.8–61.9㎡, 2-person capacity, located away from the elevator lobby, with natural light from both sides.Choose your upgrade method only if you need more space or prefer different lighting surfaces.

The area is based on the Japanese standard room page and corner room page. The English standard room page shows the same area as the corner room, which is inconsistent with the Japanese page, so it has not been copied here; Trip’s 54㎡ and 60㎡ are general specifications of the platform and should not be taken as a guarantee for every room. The ceramic bathtub in the room is a bathing facility, not a public natural hot spring. Someone in the original review used the term "hot spring bath" to describe their personal experience, but I will avoid describing it as a hot spring hotel because of that.

Both the standard room and corner room photos show a sofa and low table beside the bed, and a ceramic bathtub with a separate shower area; this explains why I would allow time to return to my room to rest more than just looking at the 50㎡+ figure. However, the partial photo of the standard room’s desktop in July 2025 also shows dust as a counterexample, indicating that large space and stable room service are two different things.

There’s only one type of breakfast available, and you might not have time to add more on-site.

The current official breakfast description lists a "Special Sandwich" for 2,750 yen (tax included), which includes a sandwich, salad, and orange juice. Reservations must be made at least 5 days prior to check-in and can be arranged through breakfast-included packages or by contacting the hotel directly. Serving/collection time is 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Room delivery must be requested in advance. Verification date: 2026-10-23. Source 1

This is a key point that will change the way you book. I would suggest that people who like to eat leisurely in their room and don’t have to rush in the morning consider this option; if you need to leave before 8 am, or are looking forward to a hot buffet, then choose the option without breakfast and find breakfast separately. A review on February 19, 2026, said the sandwiches were delicious, while a review on July 4, 2025, thought it was simpler to bring a paper bag back to the room every day. Both opinions are reasonable, depending on whether you choose convenience or a more substantial meal.

I recently read a standard room review from February 9, 2025, where the guest expressed dissatisfaction with the temperature and contents of the breakfast obtained at 9:30 AM, which was the same as every day. Another standard room guest, from February 19, 2026, expressed a preference for sandwiches. Both reviews point to the expectation of "simple, in-room meals." If I were staying for several days and wanted different hot dishes every day, I wouldn’t add extra food every day just for convenience.

There is great potential for consecutive stays, but we still need to pay attention to the room service situation in the near future.

If you arrive late for a one-night stay, you might not have enough time to enjoy the space and bathtub; staying two or three nights allows for more flexibility in your itinerary, which better suits the hotel’s strengths. The original review mentioned self-service laundry, a lounge, and a microwave, but their actual availability and functionality should be confirmed upon check-in; a single experience cannot be used as a guarantee.

This review includes 10 original Trip reviews published between February 2025 and October 2026, retaining information on standard rooms, corner rooms, and other room types. The spaciousness of the rooms, their location, and follow-up visits repeatedly appeared on different dates. Regarding cleanliness, a guest mentioned dust on the desk on July 4, 2025, and on September 22, 2026, two guests raised issues with the arrangement of sheets and toiletries. The latter described the hotel’s immediate handling of the issue, but compensation alone cannot be used to infer that the entire hotel has improved. There was also a single case on July 28, 2026, concerning a problem with the curtains; those sensitive to morning light should check the curtains first.

I would recommend it to travelers who value double space, a bathtub, and convenient elevator access; if you expect full-day hotel service or a large hot breakfast, you should first check whether those needs are actually provided by the hotel.

The two notices from February 9th and April 22nd, 2025, for standard rooms and corner rooms respectively, both mentioned limitations on on-site front desk staff or contact methods, and this wasn’t the first time such a notice had been issued. However, this doesn’t confirm the current official reception hours; if I arrive late or need immediate assistance, I’ll first obtain contact information before comparing the advantages of larger rooms.
