Hotaku HOTEL Akihabara: Self Check-In and 16–26 m² Room Choices

Hotaku HOTEL Akihabara

Hotaku HOTEL Akihabara is an option for travelers comfortable with tablet-based self check-in who want to stay near Akihabara. Its 16 m² double room is quite different from the 24–26 m² twin and triple choices. I would confirm the check-in instructions before arrival and compare the exact layout and luggage space, as guests in the same balcony twin category have reported different experiences.

Hotaku guest rooms include beds, sofas, and desks.

First, confirm which type of accommodation service you require.

This building is Hotaku HOTEL Akihabara, located at 2-13-1 Iwamoto-cho. The Trip’s Chinese name is Tokyo Akihabara Hengtai Hotel. No official website for this hotel could be found at this address. Room specifications and policies are subject to change.Trip Full ListingsThey did not treat websites or other branches with similar names as official.

  • Advantages: Twin and triple rooms have a larger area than the smallest shared room; the location is convenient for those in Iwamoto-cho and Akihabara; self-check-in reduces waiting time for those familiar with the process.
  • Limitations: Correct check-in instructions are required; there is a significant difference in space between small and large rooms; there have been some negative experiences with service, soundproofing, and cold air in winter, so the overall score should not be the sole basis for decision-making.

Self-service doesn’t mean there’s absolutely no one to help, but a positive review doesn’t guarantee there will be staff on-site all day. If you’ll be late, or if an elderly person is unfamiliar with tablets and combination locks, it’s more important to confirm support options before booking than to try and find someone after arrival.

Room type comparison: The triple room includes a sofa bed.

Trip lists room typesArea / BedMy Choice of Direction
Superior King Room (with Balcony)16㎡, one double bedOne or two people can travel light and enjoy a compact activity area.
Standard twin room (with balcony)24–26㎡, two single bedsA couple sharing a separate bed and having a lot of luggage.
Triple room (with extra bed and balcony)26㎡, two single beds plus a sofa bedThree people are sharing the room. First, confirm the location of the extra bed, then the hallway, and the luggage area.

Information verified on 2026-10-23. The room name mentioning a balcony does not necessarily mean the room area does not include a balcony or guarantees a wide view; since there is no official floor plan for cross-verification, the balcony area cannot be added to the room count. Trips for all room types include private bathrooms and bathtubs, but the actual layout will depend on the room you book.

On October 9, 2026, a couple commented that they could open two boxes, but on January 4, 2026, a family commented that the room and bed were small. New information confirms that both are logged into a standard twin room with a balcony, so I will keep the discrepancies and continue to confirm the actual configuration, number of people and box type, without saying who described it wrong.

The newly added entries have been confirmed. One entry from October 9th mentioned being able to accommodate two suitcases, while another from January 4th stated there was no way to walk after opening the suitcases. Both entries were actually for standard twin rooms with balconies. Therefore, the difference cannot be simply attributed to the 16㎡ versus 26㎡ rooms. If there are two of us with large suitcases, we will still request the actual room configuration and confirm the number of people traveling with us, suitcase types, and extra bed requirements to provide a clearer basis for comparison regarding the differences in experience under the same room name.

The actual photos of the twin rooms show the beds and sofas under a starry sky or in warm colors, and the bathroom also includes photos of the sink, toilet, and entrance area; the superior king room shows the refrigerator and storage next to the bed. If we were traveling with luggage, we would request photos of the room type we booked, rather than assuming all rooms have the same passageway based on a wide-angle photo of one themed room.

There’s more than one entrance to Akihabara; take the Iwamotocho elevator instead.

In terms of general walking distance, the original review on June 24, 2025 estimated the distance to the station, restaurants, and Akihabara shopping district to be about 10 to 15 minutes, and the review on January 4, 2026 also mentioned that it was about 15 minutes to the electronics district. These are estimates from guests and cannot be converted into precise walking distances using the platform map. If you mainly use the Toei Shinjuku Line, you can prioritize researching the Iwamotocho direction; as for the nearest exit and arrival time, we did not obtain reliable official data for this review and therefore did not assign numbers.

Regarding elevators,Transportation Eco-Mobile Foundation (original text)It has been confirmed that there is a ground-level elevator at Iwamotocho A6, and the elevator route at Exit 3 of Akihabara Station on the Hibiya Line has also been confirmed. This can serve as the starting point for a luggage-carrying route, but the complete ground distance and time from A6 to the hotel have not yet been verified, so it cannot be said that “it takes a few minutes to get to the hotel after exiting the elevator”.

I would combine shopping in Akihabara with traveling along the Toei Shinjuku Line; if you want to be able to walk back to the shops to make up for your purchases at any time and make multiple trips to and from the JR line every day, you should still compare whether this ground distance is within your physical capabilities.

Breakfast is not provided; the preparations differ for short stays and extended stays.

The trip’s Q&A stated that breakfast is not provided and there is no restaurant on site. Since there was no verifiable breakfast add-on service during this trip, I will not estimate the breakfast price. You can buy your own light breakfast or arrange for food outside in the morning, but don’t assume that the room has a refrigerator and therefore a fully equipped kitchen.

If you’re staying for one or two nights, make sure to handle your check-in information, password, and luggage. For consecutive stays, you need to confirm the trash, towels, cleaning frequency, and laundry arrangements. On March 19, 2026, two families stayed consecutively and received positive feedback about special room arrangements, but that was an individual case and doesn’t guarantee the same for every booking. If you require daily housekeeping, you should obtain a clear answer beforehand.

Negative reviews should be reviewed based on the date and type of issue; avoid mixing all complaints together.

This review consisted of 10 original Trip reviews published between June 2025 and October 2026. Self-check-in was considered convenient on January 4, 2026, but another group of two adults and one child found it cumbersome on August 29, indicating that acceptance of the feature varies from person to person.

On January 9, 2026, a guest who stayed two nights complained about the cleanliness of the bedding, drafts, and insufficient air conditioning, which are cases that need attention in winter; on July 24, another guest commented that the soundproofing was average. These are not the same problem repeated in different months, and cannot be combined to claim that the entire facility is malfunctioning, nor is there reliable evidence to say that the cold air has improved in winter. On August 29, a guest felt that the surrounding area was quiet, and on October 9, a guest praised the bathroom space; positive feedback should also be retained.

I would recommend it to couples or groups of three who can check in on their own and are willing to compare room types first; if you need the front desk to handle problems at any time, or are very sensitive to noise and temperature, please check the support and room conditions first before deciding whether it is suitable for you.

How to choose between short stays and extended stays?

On January 9, 2026, two nights of negative reviews regarding the cold air and air conditioning were recorded in the Superior King Room. On March 19, two families received positive reviews for special arrangements and were recorded in the Triple Extra Room. These are individual cases with different needs and room types. If I were to travel in winter, I would clarify the heating and ventilation issues. If multiple people arrive in batches, I would first confirm self-check-in and contact support. I do not take positive reviews of enthusiastic service as a guarantee from the on-site counter all day.
