HOSHINOYA Tokyo: Otemachi Ryokan, Hot Spring and Breakfast Options

HOSHINOYA Tokyo

If you want to stay in the heart of Tokyo and prefer the relaxed pace of a traditional Japanese inn, I would reserve HOSHINOYA Tokyo for a few days in my itinerary. Its unique feature isn’t its proximity to tourist attractions, but rather the requirement to remove shoes upon entry, the tatami mats, the tea rooms on each floor, and the natural hot spring on the rooftop; you need to allow time to experience these features to truly appreciate the difference between this accommodation and a typical city hotel.

I would recommend it to people who are willing to slow down.

  • Advantages: Complete Japanese-style ryokan experience in the city center; six guest rooms and tea room on each floor provide privacy; officially confirmed to have indoor and outdoor hot spring baths in Otemachi on the 17th floor.
  • Restrictions: Sharing a tea room does not mean that meals are served all day; information may vary between different breakfast pages, so please confirm the actual details before booking; if you wish to receive visitors on-site, please inquire about the rules of the facility.

HOSHINOYA Tokyo is located at 1-9-1 Otemachi. Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 12:00 PM. Information regarding the facilities and onsen (hot springs) has been verified against the official website and hotel information as of October 23, 2026. The therapeutic claims made regarding the onsen are not presented as medical effects. Source 1 Source 2

Differences in room types: First choose the double bed type, then look at the triple room type.

Room typeOfficially confirmed scale and purposeMy Choice of Direction
Room type SakuraOfficially confirmed size and purpose: Approximately 45 square meters, two beds, maximum 2 people. My preferred option is for friends or family to want to sleep in separate beds.
Room type Yuri/LilyOfficially confirmed size and purpose: Approximately 45 square meters, double bed, maximum 2 people. My preferred option is a shared bed for two, with an emphasis on Japanese-style indoor rest spaces.
Room type KikuOfficially confirmed size and purpose: Approximately 80 square meters, corner room, maximum 3 people, includes a dining table and cloakroom. My preferred options are: three people sharing a room, or those who want more freedom of movement when staying together.

The area is an approximation based on official hotel data and is not an exact measurement of all rooms. Trip lists Kiku as having three single beds, which differs from the bed type in a double room; reservations should still be made to confirm the actual bed arrangement and arrangements for children staying with the hotel. The tea room on each floor is a shared space and cannot be considered an extension of the separate living room area within the room.

The photos of the Lily Room and Cherry Blossom Room show the round table, chairs, and window-side rest area in addition to the bed, while the shared tea room is another space. If I choose it, I will reserve some time to sit down and have tea before returning to my room to rest, and I will not include the tea room area on each floor in the private room area calculation; the photos of the Chrysanthemum Triple Room, which are not clean, should still be viewed in conjunction with its spacious layout.

Transportation: Generally, the exit is selected based on the route taken; elevator routes can be found separately.

The official transportation page states that it’s about a 10-minute walk from the Marunouchi North Exit of Tokyo Station; when using Otemachi Station, Exit A1 is closer for the Marunouchi Line, and Exit C1 is closer for other lines. This is general exit guidance and does not mean that every line is equally close from the platform. Source 1

Regarding the elevators, we did not complete a full check of the route from each platform to the ground and then to the building, nor did we have a list of independent travel times from each elevator exit to the building. When traveling with elderly people, strollers, or large luggage, I will first request confirmation of the travel route from the building staff, and will not directly label A1 or C1 as verified, stairless routes. The 10-minute walk from Tokyo Station should also be understood as a reference point after the designated exit.

I would use this place to stroll around Otemachi, Marunouchi, and the Imperial Palace area, and then spend the afternoon or evening inside the hotel; if I go to the suburbs every day and go back to the hotel to sleep, the rhythm of a Japanese inn may not be able to be fully realized.

How to choose breakfast: Confirm the dining location beforehand; don’t just ask "Do you have breakfast?"

The current official restaurant page lists Japanese and Western breakfasts from 7:20 to 9:20, priced at 5,000 yen per adult, excluding tax and a 10% service charge, and requiring reservations one day in advance; vegetarian Japanese breakfasts have different prices and earlier reservation requirements, as of October 23, 2026. Source 1

However, the official hotel information page differentiates between the restaurant’s Holistic Ryokan Breakfast (¥9,680) and the room-delivered/Western-style breakfast (¥6,050). Both of the latter include tax and service charge, which is not entirely consistent with the location/price presentation on the dining page. Therefore, I would not list ¥6,050 as a uniform price for all breakfasts; when booking, you should confirm with the hotel whether you want room-delivered or restaurant breakfast, whether it’s included in the package, whether it can be added as an add-on, and the actual time slot.

If you prefer to eat leisurely in your room, this option makes sense; however, if you need to leave before 7 a.m., the currently listed meal times do not meet your needs. The snacks and drinks served in the tea room are not a breakfast replacement promise, and evening replenishment times may vary, so don’t expect a full meal to be available late at night.

Consecutive stays and negative reviews: The tea room is popular, but there are still cases of unresolved room service issues.

A one-night stay is ideal for experiencing the hotel firsthand; two or three nights allow more time for soaking in the bath, enjoying the tea room, and taking walks at different times. Original reviews from July 23rd and October 7th, 2026, praised the tea room and snacks/drinks; a traveler from September 2nd noted that supplies seemed to stop replenishing after 9 PM. This is a single observation, not an official supply cutoff time.

This review includes 10 original Trip reviews published between December 2025 and October 2026, retaining available room types. On April 7, 2026, a guest who had stayed consecutively pointed out inadequate cleaning on the first day, noting improvements in subsequent days; this only demonstrates the effectiveness of that remedial action and does not necessarily indicate a permanent improvement in room service across the entire hotel. On July 23, another guest felt there were limited options for in-room dining, and on August 17, someone mentioned that restrictions on visitors affected business use; these are not repeated evidence of the same issue.

I would recommend this to groups of two or three who value Japanese culture, natural hot springs, and quiet time in the hotel; if you need to meet guests frequently and have a variety of on-demand room meals, please confirm the service details before making a decision.

The newly added room type information shows that the room service was insufficient on the first day, April 7th, and the subsequent remedial measures were taken for consecutive stays in the Executive Triple Room; the same room type on January 3rd definitely had a triple room. If I were to use a large room for my family to rest together, I would consider the size advantage and the room service delivery separately, and I cannot assume that the cleaning is consistent every time just because the room is large.

On August 17th, guests in the Lily Deluxe King Room enjoyed the shared tea room but noted restrictions on visitors; on September 2nd, guests in the Sakura Room felt the evening supplies were reduced. This makes me more inclined to view the tea room as part of the accommodation’s rhythm, rather than as a public living room guaranteeing unlimited meals throughout the day or convenient for business meetings.
