&AND HOSTEL Akihabara: Dorm Beds, Private Doubles and Shared Bathrooms

&AND HOSTEL AKIHABARA

The most important question at &AND HOSTEL Akihabara is whether you are comfortable with hostel-style shared facilities. I would consider it for a light-packing solo traveler spending most of the day in Akihabara and willing to bring personal toiletries. Decide between a dormitory bed and a double room, then confirm bathroom access: a double room does not automatically include a private toilet.

Useful amenities and the compromises you accept

  • Advantage: the hotel lists roughly five minutes from JR Akihabara Showa-dori Exit, convenient for shopping and traveling by train.
  • Advantage: shared lounges are part of the experience. Guest accounts also describe a shared kitchen, refrigerator and social seating area.
  • Trade-off: dormitory aisles and storage can be tight. A guest with a suitcase larger than 28 inches reported difficulty organizing belongings.
  • Trade-off: reception is not staffed 24 hours, and some towels and amenities cost extra. This is not a full-service hotel with all supplies automatically provided.

Showa-dori Exit is about five minutes; the Metro lift is at Exit 3

Official branch information gives the address as 3-9-1 Kanda-Sakumacho and roughly five minutes from JR Akihabara Showa-dori Exit. That side is different from Electric Town Exit. The better route for shopping may not be the better route for arriving with luggage. Source 1

For the Hibiya Line, Tokyo Metro lists a lift linking the JR Akihabara-side ticket gates and Exit 3. The street-level walk from Exit 3 to the hostel has not been measured, nor have all kerbs or works been checked. Do not apply the JR five-minute estimate to this different elevator path. With a stroller or heavy case, follow the Metro lift to street level, then check the hostel address. Source 1

A September 13, 2026 guest liked the proximity to the station, supermarket and convenience stores but described limited personal storage in the dorm. Being able to buy souvenirs easily is different from having room for them in a shared sleeping area. For substantial Akihabara shopping, that storage limit may matter during a longer stay.

Choose between a dorm bed and a double room by privacy

Confirmed accommodation typeThe space you getDetails to confirm
Dormitory bedOne bunk or bed in a room shared with other travelersBed measurements, upper/lower assignment and locker dimensions.
Double roomA private room with its own door for two guestsExact area, bed width and bathroom setup for the specific category.

Official property information confirms both categories, but does not provide complete room sizes and bed widths. A June 17 guest in a double room reported no private toilet, so check the specific option rather than assuming every double has an en-suite bathroom. A September dorm review describes tight large-luggage arrangements; light-packing travelers may find it easier.

The property lists complimentary luggage storage and earplugs, while bath towels, nightwear, toothbrushes and slippers may have separate prices. A June guest believed a towel was included in their stay, which can reflect rate or room differences. Bring common toiletries or verify what the booked package includes.

Room-specific reviews help: the September 13 report about a bag larger than 28 inches came from a men’s dormitory bed, whereas the June 17 report about no private toilet came from a double with shared bathroom. I would use the first for storage decisions and the second for privacy decisions, not generalize both to every room.

Dormitory photos show wooden bunks and a central aisle; a guest photo of a double room with shared bathroom shows basic floor space beside the bed. Another brighter room photo has a table and chairs. I would first choose whether I need a room door, then check bathroom details. A tidy double-room photograph does not prove an en-suite bathroom.

No hotel breakfast and no 24-hour staffed reception

Trip lists no breakfast, while the official property page did not describe a breakfast service. A communal kitchen and complimentary tea bags should not be presented as a hotel breakfast. If leaving early, I would prepare simple food the previous evening and follow the shared-kitchen rules; for breakfast outside, check the chosen shop’s opening hours.

Official hours checked October 23, 2026: check-in 16:00–23:00, reception 08:00–23:00, check-out by 11:00. A late flight needs allowances for immigration and trains; a desk closing at 23:00 does not mean unrestricted late arrival. One December guest found the desk closed when they wanted a small fan at night, illustrating the effect of limited reception hours.

One night is straightforward; longer stays depend on shared-space routines

The source article reviewed ten original Trip comments. Complaints about hairdryer strength in February, a small bathroom in April, a dirty chair in June and tight luggage space in September describe separate issues. There are also positive cleanliness reports in April and June, alongside favorable comments on the kitchen, communal areas and helpful staff. The current cleaning and laundry schedule was not established, so do not assume daily full service on longer stays.

If traveling light and spending most of the budget on Akihabara shopping, I would compare this hostel. If I valued a private bathroom, efficient hair-drying or someone at reception around the clock, I would check those conditions before booking.

An April 11, 2026 men’s dorm guest noted noise from wooden bunk beds, no bedside shelf and little space for clothes inside the shower. Combined with September luggage comments, the cost of longer stays is managing belongings and shared facilities each day. Anyone sensitive to noise or who uses showers repeatedly should verify the current layout.
