How to stay here

  • In the same building as the JMS Aster Plaza event venue.
  • Single, twin, Japanese-style and accessible room options.
  • Shared kitchen, microwave and paid laundry suit longer stays.

How would I choose?

For a performance at JMS Aster Plaza or peace study, I would value staying in the same building. The shared kitchen and laundry suit longer stays, but the lack of non-smoking rooms and the inability to enter or leave in the early hours are real trade-offs.

Hiroshima International Youth House (Hiroshima International Youth House Jms Aster Plaza) occupies floors 7 to 9 of JMS Aster Plaza, and is not only for young people. If the purpose of the trip is a performance or event in the same building, I would like being able to return straight to the room after it ends; if it is just an ordinary city stay, I would first check whether the house rules are acceptable.

Room types and space, and choosing a room: single, twin and Japanese-style rooms each have their uses

A single room is 15㎡, a standard twin is 21–28㎡, and there is also a 34㎡ accessible twin and a 28㎡ special room; Japanese-style rooms come in 6-tatami and 8-tatami sizes and require laying out your own bedding. I would choose by how you sleep: a twin if each person wants their own bed, and a Japanese-style room only if you prefer a Japanese-style space. The house has no non-smoking rooms and instead uses deodorising treatment. For people sensitive to smoke, travelling with small children, or wanting a clearly non-smoking environment, this point is worth considering before size and price.

4-17 Kakomachi: check in on the first floor first

4-17 Kakomachi, Naka Ward, 730-0812 Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan

After arriving at 4-17 Kakomachi, first confirm the check-in location on the first floor, then head to the room. For transport, choose a bus or tram using the JMS Aster Plaza access map; I would not decide to drag luggage all the way based only on the route from Hondori Station. In the daytime, make Peace Memorial Park and the museum the focus, then eat at Hondori and Shintenchi separately. For someone watching a performance in the same building, I would eat a proper meal first, leave enough time for entry, and return to the lodging to rest after the performance — the simplest itinerary.

Building exterior and public spaces

Longer stays have paid laundry, but no entry or exit from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m.

The 7th-floor washing machines are marked at 200 yen per use, 100 yen for 30 minutes of drying, and 40 yen for detergent. For a stay of several nights, you can plan laundry turnover in advance, together with cleaning and towel arrangements; laying out your own bedding, cooking and laundry also need some living time set aside. (Daily hours and reference fees checked: 22 October 2026; on site, the house notices prevail.) Most important is that there is no entry or exit from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m. If you have very early transport, or want to stay out after an event, this place may not suit you. Some guests praised the friendly front desk, while others were disappointed that they could not use power outlets after check-out; I would arrange in advance any services still needed after check-out.

How I Would Choose in the End

If I came on this trip for a JMS Aster Plaza performance, wanted to visit the museum in the daytime, and could observe the early-hours entry and exit restriction, the same-building advantage here is clear. Choose a standard twin or a Japanese-style room by whether you accept floor bedding; for people sensitive to smoke or needing to leave before 6:00 a.m., I would look for another lodging that can accommodate that.

Pros and trade-offs to accept

Pros I value

  • In the same building as the JMS Aster Plaza event venue.
  • Single, twin, Japanese-style and accessible room options.
  • Shared kitchen, microwave and paid laundry suit longer stays.

Think through before booking

  • No non-smoking rooms, so people sensitive to smoke must choose carefully.
  • No entry or exit from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m., limiting early-morning itineraries.
  • Japanese-style rooms require laying out your own bedding, and use of spaces after check-out has rules.
