36Hostel Hiroshima
36Hostel combines a small book-and-coffee atmosphere with an easy Tokaichimachi tram connection. It offers a private double or dormitory beds, but the private double still uses shared bathrooms and is only about 7 m².
Rooms and bedding
The economy double has one double bed in a roughly 7 m² private room, sufficient mainly for sleeping. Mixed and female dormitories sell individual bunk beds; the listed 2 m² is for a bed space, not a private room. Beds have curtains, sockets, reading lights and storage. A closed door adds sleep privacy but not an en-suite bath.
| Room | Area / sleeping arrangement |
|---|---|
| Economy Double | 7㎡ |
| Mixed Dorm Bed | bed listed as 2㎡ |
| Female Dorm Bed | bed listed as 2㎡ |
Location and neighborhood
The address is 2-10-17 Tokaichimachi, about a three-minute walk from Tokaichimachi tram stop. Peace Memorial Park is roughly 590 m away, the Atomic Bomb Dome 640 m, and Hiroshima Bus Center around 920 m via the walking route. With luggage, allow time for the longer bus-center walk.

Short or longer stays
Check-in starts after 16:00, with reception listed 16:00–21:00; checkout is before 10:00. Save the self-entry code before arriving late. Guests liked clean beds and shared showers, and the wooden, bookish atmosphere. The shared lounge is small, and guests in private rooms have mentioned restrictions on eating inside. For a longer stay, that rule and the shared bathroom affect daily comfort.
Advantages and trade-offs
- + Tram stop and Peace Park within walking distance
- + Curtained bunks with sockets and reading lights
- + A calm book-and-coffee setting
- – Even the 7 m² private double uses shared bathrooms
- – Reception hours and entry code require planning
- – Eating inside private rooms may be restricted
My verdict
I would choose 36Hostel for light-luggage solo travel or a short couple stay if shared bathrooms are fine. I would not use the 7 m² double as a room for extended indoor relaxation.
